「V-Love☆Live」

I realize that there are people who read my blog who aren't familiar with the Japanese acts that I write about. For those of you who aren't familiar with Versailles Philharmonic Quintet:  They are a melodic metal Visual-Kei band from Japan. (To explain Visual-Kei would take some time. In this case, just know that they wear beautiful elaborate costumes.) In Japan, they are known as Versailles. In America they are known as Versailles Philharmonic Quintet because of a naming dispute with someone who was already using the name Versailles. One other tragic note on this band. In August 2009, their original bassist, Jasmine You passed away from an undisclosed illness. He is deeply missed and has been named an eternal member of the band.

Having said that --

On Saturday, June 18, Versailles was one of the bands performing at V-Love☆Live which was live streamed on YouTube. Because of the difference in time between Japan and the U.S., the concert started around 1:00 AM in my time zone, and Versailles didn't go on stage until around 3:00 AM. I stayed up to watch them and they were well worth the wait.

The promotion for the concert said:

「V-Love☆Live」
The artists performing at the event will be Versailles, Matenrou Opera, V-last, LOST ASH, Alice Nine, ex-Vidoll vocalist Jui, AYABIE and Golden Bomber.

Most, but not all of the songs to be performed during the event will be shown during the broadcast due to the nature of contracts with a few artists. For those few artists, however, fans can still enjoy their PVs and backstage footage during the idle time.

You can enjoy live performance, a whole atmosphere of the event and video clips from various Visual-kei bands.

Here is a brief information about a streaming live online:
LOST ASH-full stream
V-last.-full stream
Alice Nine-exclusive footage
Versailles-full stream
Jui-full stream
Matenrou Opera-full stream
AYABIE-full stream
Golden Bombers - 5 songs stream +extra

I must say I was extremely disappointed in the comments that concert-viewers were leaving on YouTube. While most were supportive of the various bands, there were also hateful comments aimed at some of the bands and at some of the other people who were commenting. Hateful, racist, sexist comments..... It was horrible. I'm sure that the various bands would have been mortified if they had read them.

Some people made horrid, nasty comments about Jasmine You that were totally uncalled for. By all accounts, Jasmine You was one of the most kind, loving individuals that anyone could want to meet. Even through his illness and the pain he endured, he continued to perform. His fans meant the world to him. He most certainly does not deserve the disrespect that was shown to him.

And Jasmine You was not the only one whose memory was disrespected. So were Kami (of Malice Mizer) and hide (of X Japan) -- two other extremely talented, loved and missed Japanese musicians who were also taken from us too soon. These men did not deserve the comments that were made. It turned my stomach to read such filth.

I don't want to dwell on the hate I saw. I want to stay positive. I want to smile. And this picture makes me smile. This is Teru (one of the guitarists for Versailles) outside of his costume and make-up. His smile is amazing. It lights up the room.
